Here is some more
information about the Q-Comp application that is being developed and
will be voted on on Tuesday.
The plan is for a 2
year period only, 2005-2006 and 2006-2007. There is no commitment on
the part of the District or the teachers beyond that.
Individual
participation in each component of the plan being proposed will be
voluntary. Each component has additional compensation tied to it. If we
get the money, each individual can choose to be part of this or not.
Our current negotiated
agreement will not change. No one will lose any money. If you choose to
participate in Q-Comp, you will make more money.
If you choose not to
participate there will be no negative consequences to you. This will be
your choice.
The components of the
plan will be equally accessible to all individuals covered by our
contract irregardless of assignment or location.
70% of the money
available to each individual will be tied to participation, not formal
evaluation.
10% of the money you
can get will be tied to administrative evaluation using the same SPRE
process we use now. There will be an appeal process to address
disagreements over administrative evaluation.
10% of the money will
be tied to achievement of a site goal. Q- Comp expects this goal to be
something relative to test scores. We are taking a close look at this so
we can be sure to include everyone no matter how small a site you are
in.
10% of the money will
be tied to documenting student gains. The plan will have many options
for how to do this so that people in non-instructional settings can
attain these dollars as well.
There will also be
several opportunities for teachers to obtain additional compensation
through additional leadership responsibilities such as instructional
leaders, mentors, department coordinators, etc.
Complete details of this plan including dollar figures and expectations
will be out in the buildings on Monday. We are voting on Tuesday because
the application has to be approved by the SCEA before it can even be
submitted. The Board has to approve it as well.
Voting YES on the
application will not commit you to participation
in Q-Comp. It only allows the
application to go
forward.
